Iron Mountain Director Global VAT in Boston, Massachusetts

The Director, Global VAT will report to the Vice President, Global Tax Planning and Operations and will be located at Iron Mountain’s corporate headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts. The successful candidate will be a strong leader, with exceptional technical skills and proven expertise as a trusted business and tax advisor and able to thrive in a complex, fast-paced multi-national organization. Success in this role will require Global VAT planning and advisory expertise,

relevant experience in designing processes and creating policies around Global VAT governance, including riskmanagement and internal audit controls.

Indirect Tax Advisory

  •  Implementation and ongoing development of a Global VAT strategy.

  •  Design and implement efficient internal Global VAT processes.

  •  Advise the business on the Global VAT implications of its service sales and purchases, supply chain activities, capital acquisition, real estate and other transactions.

  •  Manage the VAT aspects of M&A transactions and business expansion.

  •  Monitor Global VAT developments and determine business impact.

  •  Drive continuous improvements in the Global VAT return preparation process, through improving systems data, creating streamlined processes and leverage of internal shared service capabilities / external service providers.

  •  Ongoing assessment of VAT and financial risks and creation of the relevant provisions.

  •  Interaction with the IT department to monitor VAT systems capabilities, improve and streamline VAT processes, and increase the quality of VATdata.

  •  Update and maintain SOX documentation for the VAT process.

Indirect Tax Compliance

  •  Oversight and ownership of the Global VAT compliance process.

  •  Review indirect tax reports such as VAT returns, EC sales and Intrastat to ensure timely and accurate filing across multiple countries and approve the submission when prepared by SSC or outside advisors.

  •  Liaise with local finance or shared services in respect to issues identified during compliance process (e.g. incorrect invoice postings).

  •  Respond to information requests and notices from tax authorities on VATmatters.

  •  Manage VAT audits with the taxing authorities.

  •  Oversee the periodic reconciliation of the general ledger VAT accounts.

  •  Train compliance staff on VAT filings.

  •  Liaise with third party advisors, as required, who may assist in managing all or some of the above.

  •  Maintain standard operating procedures for indirect tax reporting.

  •  Carry out ongoing internal VAT audits and regularly review internal controls.

  •  Assist with statutory and financial audits in relation to VAT.

Requirements

  • 7-10 Years Experience

  • CPA/JD Preferred

  • Strong skills and experience level with development and implementation of a Global VAT strategy.

  • Balanced approach and experience with VAT planning, compliance, and reporting.

  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational and follow up skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify, communicate, and manage VAT issues.

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex VAT matters to non-tax professionals.

  • Excellent accounting and analytical skills and abilities including a fundamental understanding of US GAAP

  • Accounting and consolidated financial statements for large multinational companies.

  • Proactive, tenacious, resilient, self-motivated, hands-on, with an intellectual curiosity and bias for action; willing to

  • Embrace change, seek out business partners, understand value propositions, and develop creative ideas to

  • Improve the company’s VAT position and support operational initiatives.
