Responsibilities

This position, reporting directly to the Tax Manager, is responsible for all indirect taxes for the North American Organization. The incumbant will be responsible for resolving sales tax billing issues in the AWS system for North America, Canada and Puerto Rico. Reviewing and approving customer exemption certificates and setting the customer up as tax exempt in the Vertex system. Also assist the tax department with the day-to-day handling of Company's state and local tax audits and personal property audits. Responding to information and requests from state and local audit agencies, develops daily audit reviews and checklists recieved from various auditors. Review proposed assessments, calculations and proper handling of the audit process to enure audits are closed in a timely fashion. Correct and audit deficiencies to reduce future audit liabilities.

  • Manage all state and local personal property, sales and use tax audits for Canada and United States

  • Must be able to diligently research and analyze sales and use tax issues and assist other departments with tax issues

  • Prepare and send tax exemption certificates to vendors

  • Review and update the exemption certificate tables

  • Prepare all state and local business licenses

  • Minimize audit exposure by ensuring compliance by other service groups

  • Interact with the 3rd party vendor that prepares our personal property tax returns

  • Review and incorporate new tax rate changes

  • Run and analyze sales tax reports in Oracle and Vertex

  • Review and analyze accrual accounts on the general ledger

Qualifications

  • This position requires strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and verbal/written communication skills. Accuracy and attention to details are critical. The candidate must be able to set priorities and have the ability to meet numerous different deadlines from multiple sources. Extensive use of computer applications, especially Excel and accounting systems (Oracle, Discoverer, OFA, Web reporting) is required.

  • The candidate for this position should have a general knowledge of Iron Mountain and what services the company provides, especially in the North American Organization. This would include services such as Records Management/Data Protection Storage and Shredding and the overall daily operations performed in the field.

  • This position will have no direct reports nor will they be responsible for leading others. Professionalism, tact and a proactive nature are required as well as the confidence to make tough decisions to carry out policies and procedures for the better of the department/company.

  • Problem Solving can range from routine accounting issues to complex ones that arise from various sources such as internal (field) and external customers (auditors). The ability to gather, interpret and make sound decisions based on that information is required.

  • Skills would include but are not limited to proactive nature, flexibility, self starter, team player, willing to work hard and go the extra mile.

  • Education / Experience: 4-year College Degree / 4 – 10 Years
