We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager to lead our High-Risk Collections team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of collections law, debt recovery processes, and risk management strategies, paired with excellent leadership and problem-solving skills. In this role, you will oversee the recovery of high-risk accounts, implement strategies to mitigate losses, and ensure alignment with company objectives and regulatory requirements. You will also provide subject matter expertise and guidance to both your team and other departments on complex collections matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:
Lead and manage a collections team handling high-risk and delinquent accounts, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
Develop, implement, and refine collections strategies, ensuring effectiveness in maximizing recovery while maintaining customer relationships.
Work closely with senior leadership to assess and mitigate collection risks, proposing risk-based strategies for improvement.
Act as a subject matter expert in high-risk collections, providing guidance and expertise to the team and other departments.
Collections Process Management:
Oversee the management of high-risk accounts, including complex collections, charge-offs, and recovery processes.
Ensure the team adheres to internal policies, legal requirements, and best practices for debt recovery.
Monitor and track the progress of high-risk collections and adjust strategies as needed to meet recovery targets.
Provide regular reporting and analysis of collection outcomes, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs) and identifying areas for improvement.
Legal and Compliance Oversight:
Use your paralegal expertise to review and manage legal documents related to collections, such as demand letters, settlement agreements, and court filings.
Liaise with external legal counsel and internal legal teams to manage legal actions, including bankruptcies, judgments, and collections litigation.
Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including FDCPA, FCRA, and other state and federal debt collection laws.
Oversee the management of complex, high-risk cases, including making decisions about when to pursue legal action, settlements, or alternative recovery options.
Training and Development:
Provide ongoing coaching, training, and development opportunities for team members to ensure a high level of performance and legal compliance.
Ensure the team stays updated on changes in collections laws, regulations, and best practices through continuous education and knowledge-sharing.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., Customer Excellence,Legal, Compliance, Finance) to address high-risk account issues and ensure cross-functional alignment.
Maintain strong relationships with external collection agencies, legal firms, and other third-party partners.
Communicate effectively with key stakeholders, including senior management, regarding high-risk collection status, challenges, and progress.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Paralegal certification or a background in law is highly preferred.
Experience:
5+ years of experience in collections management or high-risk collections.
Significant experience working in or with legal teams on debt recovery and collections-related matters.
Proven experience in managing and mentoring teams.
Strong understanding of collections laws, regulations, and best practices.
Skills:
In-depth knowledge of collection strategies, processes, and systems.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office and collections software/tools.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
Desired Qualifications:
Paralegal background or legal training related to debt recovery, commercial collections, or bankruptcy law.
Advanced knowledge of collections litigation processes and ability to navigate complex legal scenarios.
Ability to influence and collaborate cross-functionally, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience in financial services, banking, or a similar regulated industry.
